We are pleased to announce that the Department of Early Childhood (DEC) will allocate an additional $1.25 million to its annual funding allocation for the Family Resource Center Initiative (FRCI) community partners. This funding is a testament to the FRCs invaluable role in strengthening the existing capacity and implementing basic needs programming at FRCs. The funding will be available annually, for current grantees of the FRCI, from FY2024-25 through FY2026-27, for a total of $3.75 million.

This additional allocation to the FRCI seeks to close the gap from one-time funds that expired on June 30, 2024. DEC is committing funding over the next three years to support basic needs services, particularly for families facing multiple barriers to access.

Rather than a one-time allocation, this funding strategy is designed to provide a secure and stable source for the next three years, instilling confidence in the future of the FRCs and the services provided. This includes,

1) Deepening public confidence in basic needs referral services available through FRCs for the next three years.

2) Providing sustained funding for FRCs with capacity to respond to families’ multiple needs and assist with linkages/referrals to housing, diapers, infant formula, food, and employment/economic opportunities.

3) Broadening the reach of FRCs and expanding the network of family-serving organizations interested in increasing their basic needs linkages and navigating services and resources for families needing concrete support.

We understand the importance of getting these funds to the community as expediently as possible. We will issue an application for FRCs to express their need and interest when determining the amounts each FRC will receive. Allocations will be based on demonstrated need for funds, including but not limited to the number of participants served in prior years and numbers expected in FY2024-25; prior Enhancement Grant spending and projected spending amounts for FY2024-25; and/or neighborhood/population needs. At this time, this funding opportunity is not expected to be available after FY 2026-27. Consequently, there will be stipulations on the use of funds to encourage the sustainability of efforts.

We anticipate the application for these funds will be released in September via email.

We want to express our heartfelt gratitude for the incredible work you do for our San Francisco families. Your dedication and commitment are truly appreciated and make a significant difference in the lives of many.
